Delay Engagement Forward And Reverse




A delayed engagement in forward and reverse may be caused by torque converter drainback through the cooler return line. The 1990 Ford E4OD transmission has a check valve installed in the return line case fitting to prevent this condition. To correct this problem on 1989 models, Ford has developed a special drainback check valve. See illustration.

Note
This valve can be used on other transmissions using 5/16" cooler line.

CAUTION
Check valve must be installed in cooler return line with arrow pointing towards transmission. Failure to install the check valve in the proper direction will cause severe transmission damage.
