^ VIBRATION IN CAB FLOOR AREA - CREW CAB MODELS WITH E40D TRANSMISSION

LIGHT TRUCK: 1989-90 F-350

ISSUE: A "moaning" noise or floor vibration may be experienced in the 1500-1700 RPM range while in DRIVE or OVERDRIVE. This usually occurs on a moderate "tip-in". This condition is caused by transmitted drivetrain vibrations.

ACTION: Road test the truck to determine if a new driveshaft with a torsional damper is required. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Drive the vehicle in both DRIVE and OVERDRIVE.

a. Operate the truck through the 1500-1700 RPM range.

b. Determine if the moan or vibration is from the cab floor.

c. If the moan/vibration is from the cab floor, proceed to Step # 2.

2. Install a driveshaft with a torsional damper. Refer to the 1989-90 F-Series Truck Shop Manual, Section 15-01, for service details.

NOTE: IF THE TRUCK IS A 4 X 2, ALSO REPLACE THE REAR AXLE COMPANION FLANGE (E7TZ-4851-A). INSTALL TWO (2) STRAP RETAINERS AND FOUR (4) ALLEN HEAD SCREWS. TIGHTEN THE ALLEN SCREWS TO 25-40 LB.FT. (34-54 N-m).
