Speed Control - Inoperative

Article No.: 94-8-17

SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE - DEACTIVATION SWITCH AND CONNECTOR LEAKAGE - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 9/1/93

LIGHT TRUCK:
1992-93 ECONOLINE

ISSUE:
The speed control may be inoperative due to water entry into the deactivation switch which causes an "open" circuit. This occurs because the switch/connector interface was not installed correctly.

ACTION:
Replace the connector internal gasket with an improved gasket which is not prone to leakage. Also, replace the deactivation switch. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

When the Speed Control System Diagnostic Procedure In the 1992/93 Econoline Service Manual, Section 10-03, shows that the deactivation switch is inoperative (electrically "Open" circuit), proceed as follows:

1. Replace the deactivation switch (F3TZ-9F924-B). Refer to the 1993 Econoline Service Manual, Section 10-03, for removal and installation procedures. Tighten the new switch to 20 N-m (15 lb.ft.).

2. Remove the red rubber gasket from within the electrical connector cavity.

3. Install a new electrical connector gasket (F2UZ-14A297-A).

4. Secure the connector to the switch, making sure that it is latched and seated properly.

5. Verify that the speed control is functioning properly.
