Glow Plug: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) glow plugs aid in starting when the engine is below normal operating temperature.

OPERATION
The glow plugs assist in fuel ignition by preheating air in the combustion chamber. PTC glow plugs change resistance with temperature. This change in resistance is used to determine glow plug ON time.
