A/T - Check Ball Locations And Function

SIL 89-29 (Aug)

SUBJECT: FORD

CHECK BALL LOCATIONS AND FUNCTION

1. Ball Shuttle (Main Control Body). Separates MANUAL TWO flow and solenoid 2 flow into the 1-2 manual transition valve, which supplies flow to prevent the 1-2 valve from shifting.

2. Check Ball (Main Control Body). Forces forward engagement pressure through the orifice while allowing free exhaust.

3. Check Ball. Aids fast exhaust of direct clutch when shifting out of REVERSE.

4. Check Ball. Forces the overdrive clutch to exhaust through the orifice during 4-3 downshifts.

5. Ball Shuttle. Separates solenoid 4 flow from either MANUAL TWO flow or REVERSE flow, which shifts the coast clutch shift valve.

6. Check Ball. Forces coast clutch feed fluid through the orifice for 4-3 downshifts and MANUAL ONE or TWO pull-ins while allowing free exhaust.

7. Check Ball. Forces REVERSE and MANUAL TWO flow through the 4-3-2 shift timing valve.

8. Ball Shuttle. Separates MANUAL TWO flow and REVERSE flow to the 4-3-2 timing valve and the coast clutch shift valve.

9. Check Ball. Forces the intermediate clutch to exhaust through the orifice during a 2-1 downshift.

10. Check Ball. Forces band servo apply pressure through the orifice while bypassing the orifice on exhaust.

11. Check Ball. Forces the direct clutch to exhaust through the orifice during 3-2 down shifts.

12. Ball shuttle. Separates TWO and REVERSE flow at the low-reverse modulator valve.

13. Solenoid 2 air bleed check ball.

14. Solenoid 1 air bleed check ball.

Note
The solenoid 1 and 2 air bleed check balls remove air from the lines to ensure an immediate response at startup.
