On-Demand Self Test

The on-demand self test option can be used to verify that no electrical faults exist with the supplemental air bag system. Upon entering self test, the air bag diagnostic monitor will make an electrical check of each electrical component in the system. If a fault is detected, a DTC is displayed on the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 or equivalent with a brief description of the fault. Faults detected during self test are not stored in memory, unless the same fault was also detected during normal vehicle operation. Self test should always be run after any service to verify that the service was successful.

To run on-demand self test, follow these steps:
1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 or equivalent to data link connector (DLC).
2. Turn ignition switch to the RUN position.
3. Select the MODEL YEAR and VEHICLE.
4. Select DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK.
5. Select IABM-INTEGRATED AIR BAG MONITOR.
6. Select DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES.
7. Select ON-DEMAND SELF TEST.
8. Press START and then TRIGGER.
9. The air bag diagnostic monitor will run on-demand self test and display ON-DEMAND DTCs (reflecting hard system faults) on the screen.
