Removal

Special Tools:










1. Place the selector lever in the neutral position.
2. If equipped, turn the air suspension switch OFF.
3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. If transmission disassembly is required, drain the transmission fluid.
6. On 4WD vehicles remove the transfer case.





7. Mark the driveshaft flange and rear axle companion flange for correct alignment during installation.





8. Remove the rear driveshaft.
1 Remove the four bolts.
2 Remove the driveshaft.

9. Remove the starter motor.





10. Remove the rubber plug to access the torque converter nuts.





11. Remove the four torque converter nuts.
- Rotate the crankshaft/flywheel assembly to access all the torque converter nuts.





12. Disconnect the transmission shift linkage.





13. Disconnect the transmission cooler lines.





14. Disconnect the transmission electrical connectors.
1 Disconnect the digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor.
2 Disconnect the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor.
3 Disconnect the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).





15. Disconnect the solenoid body assembly electrical connector.
16. Position the High-Lift Trans Jack, under the transmission.
17. Remove the exhaust and crossmember.





18. Remove the fuel line bracket bolt.





19. Remove the transmission fill tube bolt from the back of the (RH) cylinder head.





20. Remove the upper transmission fluid fill tube.





21. Remove the six transmission to engine bolts.





22. WARNING: THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS HEAVY AND MAY RESULT IN INJURY IF IT FALLS OUT OF THE TRANSMISSION.

Secure the torque converter in the transmission. Install the Torque Converter Holding Tool.
23. Lower the transmission from the vehicle. Perform Transmission Fluid Cooler Backflushing and Cleaning.
