Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify the customer concern by following these steps:
1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
2. Place the headlamp switch in the ON position.
3. Verify the low beam operation.
4. Place the multi-function switch in the high beam position.
5. Verify the high beam operation.
6. Check the high beam indicator.
7. Place the multi-function switch in the OFF position.
8. Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
9. Verify the daytime running lamp system operation:
^ Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
^ Verify the headlamps are on at reduced intensity.

2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Refer to the following chart:

Mechanical
^ Damaged headlamp bulb

Electrical
^ Blown fuse(s)
^ Damaged wiring harness
^ Loose or corroded connector(s)
^ Circuitry open/shorted
^ Damaged ignition switch
^ Damaged daytime running lamp control
^ Damaged parking brake switch

3. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as required.
4. If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, determine the symptom(s) and proceed to Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
