Front Suspension

WARNING: All vehicles are equipped with gas-pressurized shock absorbers which will extend unassisted. Do not apply heat or flame to the shock absorbers during removal or component servicing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital parts and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number must be installed if installation becomes necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.

Front Suspension - Super Duty F-250, F-350
The front suspension system for the Super Duty F-250 and F-350 4x2 is a twin I-beam type that uses radius arms to control lateral movement. The wheel spindles are attached to the front axles with upper and lower ball joints and the system uses coil springs and shock absorbers. The front suspension consists of the following components:
^ Shock absorbers
^ Coil springs
^ Radius arms
^ Wheel spindles
^ LH and RH I-beam axles
^ Stabilizer bar
^ Stabilizer bar links

Front Suspension - Super Duty F-450, F-550
The front suspension system for the Super Duty F-450 and F-550 4x2 is a solid (mono-tube), non-driving type axle that uses radius arms to control lateral movement. The wheel knuckles are attached to the front axle with upper and lower ball joints and the system uses coil springs and shock absorbers. The Super Duty F-450 and F-550 also incorporate a track bar to aid in vehicle stability. The front suspension consists of the following components:
^ Shock absorbers
^ Coil springs
^ Radius arms
^ Wheel knuckles
^ Mono-tube axle
^ Stabilizer bar
^ Stabilizer bar links
^ Track bar
