Removal and Installation
CAUTION: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of contaminants or premature failure of the power steering components may result.
NOTE: The hydraulic booster jumper line and the power steering pressure line can be serviced separately. It is not necessary to disconnect the jumper line from the hydraulic booster when servicing the power steering pressure line
All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.
2. Using a suitable suction device, drain the power steering fluid reservoir.
6.0L Diesel vehicles
3. Remove the pushpin retainers and the upper air deflector.
4. Remove the 2 power steering fluid reservoir bracket-to-cowl bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.)
5. Remove the 2 power steering fluid reservoir bracket-to-radiator support bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.)
6. Position the power steering reservoir and reservoir bracket aside.
7. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the air cleaner outlet tube.
8. NOTE: Air cleaner side shown, other side similar.
Loosen the 2 clamps and remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
All vehicles
NOTE: The hydraulic booster jumper line and the power steering pressure line can be serviced separately. It is not necessary to disconnect the jumper line from the hydraulic booster when servicing the power steering pressure line.
9. NOTE: Thoroughly clean all foreign material from the threads.
Disconnect the power steering pressure line-to-hydraulic booster jumper line fitting.
^ To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)
10. NOTE: Thoroughly clean all foreign material from the threads.
Disconnect the power steering pressure line-to-steering gear fitting and remove the pressure line.
^ To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)
11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Fill the power steering system.
