Steering Column

Removal and Installation
1. Remove the steering wheel.
2. Remove the steering column opening trim and panel.
3. Remove the screw and the lower steering column shroud.
4. Remove the 2 screws and the upper steering column shroud.
5. Disconnect the multi-function switch electrical connectors.
6. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
7. If equipped, remove the screw and disconnect the shift cable.
8. If equipped, disconnect the overdrive cancel switch electrical connector.
9. Disconnect the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver electrical connector.
10. Disconnect the brake shift interlock actuator electrical connector.

11. CAUTION: Do not allow the steering column shaft to rotate while the intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered.

NOTE: Always install a new bolt.

Remove and discard the intermediate steering column shaft-to-steering column shaft bolt.
^ To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

12. Disconnect the 2 steering column electrical connectors.

13. NOTE: Make sure the column support is aligned before tightening the nuts.

Remove the 4 steering column support bracket nuts.
^ To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

14. Lower the steering column assembly and separate the steering column assembly from the intermediate steering column shaft.
15. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
