Power Window Operation
The power window system operates under the control of the accessory delay relay. The smart junction box (SJB) grounds the relay coil to provide power to the power window system.
Power Window Control
The power window system can be operated from the driver window control switch or from the window control switches located on each door panel. The driver window control switch has 2 modes of operation for the driver power window, manual and auto one-touch down (OTD). All other windows operate in the manual mode only.
Manual mode moves the window downward until the switch is released. The driver power window will operate in the manual mode when the driver window control switch is pressed to the first detent position.
Auto mode provides the OTD feature for the driver front power window. The OTD function allows the driver front power window to be completely lowered when the driver window control switch is pressed to the second detent position and then released. The OTD function is controlled by the driver window control switch integral electronics.
The power window system will only operate if:
- the ignition is in the RUN or ACC position.
- the accessory delay feature is in the active mode.
Front Windshield Defrost
The SJB controls the front windshield defrost element by controlling the state of the front windshield defrost relay. When the front windshield defrost switch is pressed, the SJB activates the front windshield defrost relay. When the front windshield defrost relay is active, the SJB also illuminates the indicator on the front windshield defrost.
The SJB deactivates the front windshield defrost relay when one of the following conditions is met:
- The front windshield defrost switch is pressed when the feature is active
- The ignition switch state is changed from RUN to OFF/LOCK
- The 8-minute timing function has completed when the exterior ambient air temperature is below 4°C (40°F)
- The 4-minute timing function has completed when the exterior ambient air temperature is 4°C (40°F) or above
Rear Window Defrost
The SJB controls the rear window defrost grid and heated mirrors by controlling the state of the rear window defrost/mirror relay. When the rear window defrost switch is pressed, the instrument control module activates the heated grid relay. When the heated grid relay is active, both the rear window defrost grid and the heated mirror elements are energized.
The instrument control module deactivates the heated grid relay when one of the following conditions is met:
- The rear window defrost switch is pressed when the feature is active
- The ignition switch state is changed from RUN to OFF/LOCK
- The 10-minute timing function has completed
Power Rear Window (if Equipped)
The power rear window will only operate if:
- the ignition is in the RUN or ACC position.
- the accessory delay feature is in the active mode.
The power rear window has 3 window position selections:
- Fully open
- Vent
- Fully closed
The power rear window is operated by the control switch located in the overhead console. When the rear window is in the fully closed position, pressing and releasing the control switch in the down direction will lower the rear widow to the vent position. Pressing and releasing the control switch again in the down direction will lower the rear window to the fully open position. When the rear window is in the fully open or vent position, pressing and releasing the control switch in the up direction will return the rear window to the fully closed position.
