Test D: Incorrect Oil Pressure Gauge Indication

PINPOINT TEST D: INCORRECT OIL PRESSURE GAUGE INDICATION

Normal Operation
When the oil pressure is within normal ranges, the oil pressure switch closes and sends a ground signal to the instrument cluster (IC) through circuit 31 (WH/RD) setting the oil pressure gauge to the normal or mid-range position. When the oil pressure is low, the oil pressure switch opens, removing the ground signal, and the instrument cluster (IC) commands the oil pressure gauge to the L (low) position.

- DTC C1284 (Oil Pressure Switch Failure) - is a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets if the instrument cluster (IC) detects high resistance (open) on the oil pressure input, circuit 31 (WH/RD) with engine speed above 500 rpm for 5 seconds or if the instrument cluster (IC) detects a short to ground with the engine off.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Base engine concern
- Engine oil pressure switch
- Instrument cluster (IC)
