REMOVAL - SPUN CAGE NUT

FORD:

ISSUE
Some 2008-2010 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.4L engine may exhibit a Front End Sheet Metal (FESM) body bolt retainer cage nut that spins when attempting to remove the body cab for service.

ACTION
Follow the service procedure steps to correct the concern.

SERVICE TIP

CAUTION
DO NOT USE AN OXYGEN ACETYLENE TORCH TO HEAT CAGE NUT OR DAMAGE MAY OCCUR TO THE BODY MOUNT OR VEHICLE.

CAUTION
DO NOT APPLY HEAT TO THE BOLT HEAD OR BODY MOUNT DAMAGE MAY OCCUR.

NOTE
DO NOT REMOVE THE BODY MOUNT BOLTS WITH THE CAB UNSUPPORTED.

1. Remove left and/or right headlamp assembly. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 417-01.

2. Position a jack on the front FESM core support cross member and lift up to apply pressure to the cage nut to prevent spinning.

3. Using a butane torch or equivalent, apply heat to the FESM body cage nut for 15 seconds. Adding heat to the cage nut will loosen the thread lock material on the body bolt and aid in bolt removal.

4. Remove the body mount bolt using an impact wrench.
