Removal

All vehicles
1. If equipped, remove the floor console.
2. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
3. Starting with the front wheels in the straight-ahead position, rotate the steering wheel 180 degrees.
4. Remove and discard the upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt.







5. Rotate the steering wheel until the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
- Remove the ignition key.

6. CAUTION: Do not allow the steering column shaft to rotate while the intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered.

Detach the upper steering column shaft from the steering column.

Vehicles with a manual transmission
7. Remove the shift lever and boot.

All vehicles
8. Remove the RH and LH A-pillar trim panels and the RH and LH lower cowl trim panels.
9. Position aside the RH and LH front door weatherstrips.
10. Remove the RH and LH instrument panel side trim panels.
11. Remove the parking brake release handle bolt and position aside the parking brake release handle.
12. Remove the steering column opening trim panel.
- Pull the steering column opening trim panel outward to release the steering column opening trim panel retaining clips.

Vehicles with an automatic transmission
13. Remove the selector lever cable from the steering column.
- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column selector lever.
- Remove the selector lever cable from the steering column bracket.







All vehicles
14. Disconnect the 3 wiring harness electrical connectors located under the steering column opening panel.







15. Remove the RH lower insulator panel.
- Remove the 2 pushpin retainers.







16. Disconnect the antenna cable and the bulkhead electrical connector.







17. Disconnect the bulkhead electrical connector and the 2 connectors from the smart junction box (SJB).







18. Lower the glove compartment.
1 Open the glove compartment.
2 Depress the glove compartment stop and lower the glove compartment.







19. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors that are attached to the plenum chamber.







20. Close the glove compartment.
1 Depress the glove compartment stop and raise the glove compartment.
2 Close the glove compartment.







21. Remove the lower instrument panel center support bolt.







22. Remove the instrument panel upper cowl bolt covers.
23. Remove the 3 instrument panel upper cowl bolts.
24. Remove the LH door weather shield.
- Remove the 4 LH door weather shield pin-type retainers.







25. Remove the LH instrument panel side bolt cover.







26. CAUTION: Place tape on the LH front door as shown to avoid damage to the paint.

Place tape on the LH front door.







27. Remove the LH instrument panel side bolt.
28. Remove the RH and LH instrument panel bolts.

29. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out this step.

NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the instrument panel.

Remove the instrument panel.

Installation

All vehicles

1. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out this step.

NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are correctly routed when installing the instrument panel.

Install the instrument panel.

2. Install the RH and LH instrument panel bolts.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

3. NOTE: Use LH instrument panel side bolt guide to prevent the LH instrument panel side bolt from falling into the lower cowl panel.

Install the LH instrument panel side bolt.
- Install the LH instrument panel side bolt guide (part number 5402A08) into the LH instrument panel side bolt opening.
- Install the LH instrument panel side bolt into the LH instrument panel.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

4. Remove the tape from the LH front door.







5. Install the LH instrument panel side bolt cover.







6. Install the LH door weather shield.
- Install the 4 LH door weather shield pin-type retainers.







7. Install the 3 instrument panel upper cowl bolts.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

8. Install the instrument panel upper cowl bolt covers.
9. Install the lower instrument panel center support bolt.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).







10. Lower the glove compartment.
1 Open the glove compartment.
2 Depress the glove compartment stop and lower the glove compartment.







11. Connect the 2 electrical connectors that are attached to the plenum chamber.







12. Close the glove compartment.
1 Depress the glove compartment stop and raise the glove compartment.
2 Close the glove compartment.







13. Connect the bulkhead electrical connector and the 2 connectors to the SJB.







14. Connect the antenna cable and the bulkhead electrical connector.







15. Install the RH lower insulator panel.
- Install the 2 pushpin retainers.







16. Connect the 3 wiring harness electrical connectors located under the steering column opening panel.







Vehicles with an automatic transmission
17. Install the selector lever cable to the steering column.
- Connect the selector lever cable to the steering column selector lever.
- Install the selector lever cable to the steering column bracket.







All Vehicles
18. Install the steering column opening trim panel.
19. Install the parking brake release handle and bolt.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

20. Install the RH and LH instrument panel side trim panels.
21. Install the RH and LH A-pillar trim panels and the RH and LH lower cowl trim panels.
22. Install the RH and LH front door weatherstrips.

Vehicles with a manual transmission
23. Install the shift lever and boot.

All vehicles

24. CAUTION: Do not allow the steering column shaft to rotate while the intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered.

Install the upper steering column shaft to the steering column.

25. With the front wheels in the straight-ahead position, rotate the steering wheel 180 degrees.
26. Install a new upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt.
- Tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).







27. Rotate the steering wheel until the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
28. Repower the SRS.
29. If equipped, remove the floor console.
