Tests AE: The Wait To Start Indicator Is Never/Always On

PINPOINT TEST AE: THE WAIT TO START INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

Normal Operation
The wait to start data is transmitted to the instrument cluster (IC) over the communication network from the PCM. The wait to start indicator illuminates when the key is in the ON position with the engine off (KOEO) indicating that the glow plugs are heating.

If the wait to start data is missing for less than 5 seconds, the wait to start indicator remains in the last indication mode (on or off). If the wait to start data is missing for more than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster (IC) sets DTC U0100 in continuous memory and defaults the wait to start indicator off.

NOTE: If DTC U0100 is set in the instrument cluster (IC), other observable symptoms may be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or odometer.

- DTC B2658 (Wait To Start Warning Indicator Circuit Open) - is a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets if the instrument cluster (IC) detects an internal open in the wait to start indicator lamp circuitry or bulb. This DTC can only be detected when the lamp is commanded on. Once the instrument cluster (IC) sets the fault, the instrument cluster (IC) sends a message to the PCM to command the MIL indicator on.

NOTE: DTC B2658 may set in the instrument cluster (IC) and P0381 may set in the PCM after exiting a instrument cluster (IC) dealer test mode session.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- PCM
- Instrument cluster (IC)
