NOTE: Single Rear Wheel (SRW) shown, Dual Rear Wheels (DRW) similar.

Removal

NOTE: The Single Rear Wheel (SRW) wheel hub and the Dual Rear Wheels (DRW) wheel hub are different in appearance, however, the tools and procedures are the same with one exception: the brake disc can remain attached to the DRW hub if the longer driver handle is used to remove and install the bearing cups and seals.

NOTE: A SRW wheel hub cutaway is shown for clarity in this procedure. However, the procedure is the same for the DRW wheel hub.

1. Remove the wheel hub. For additional information, refer to Wheel Hub Wheel Hubs and Bearings - Full Floating Axle - Ford.

2. Position the Handle and Differential Bearing Cup Installer on the inner bearing.

3. Using the Handle and Differential Bearing Cup Installer and holding the Handle straight, drive the inner bearing, slinger and wheel hub seal out of the wheel hub as a unit.
- Remove and discard the bearing, slinger and wheel hub seal.

4. Position the Wheel Hub Inner Bearing Cup Remover into the wheel hub cavity and onto the inner bearing cup.

5. Using the Handle and Wheel Hub Inner Bearing Cup Remover, drive the inner bearing cup from the wheel hub and discard the cup.

6. Reposition the wheel hub facing downward. Position the Handle and Wheel Hub Outer Bearing Cup Remover on the outer bearing cup.

7. Using the Handle and Wheel Hub Outer Bearing Cup Remover, drive the outer bearing cup from the wheel hub and discard the cup.

Installation

1. With the wheel hub facing upward, position the new outer bearing cup in the wheel hub bore and place the Handle and Axle Bearing Installer on the bearing cup.

2. Using the Handle and Axle Bearing Installer, drive the outer bearing cup into the fully seated position.

3. Reposition the wheel hub facing downward. Position the inner bearing cup in the wheel hub bore and place the Handle and Axle Bearing Installer on the bearing cup.

4. Using the Handle and Axle Bearing Installer, drive the inner bearing cup into the fully seated position.

5. NOTE: The wheel hub bearings must be prelubricated with grease prior to installation. Pack each bearing with a bearing packing tool. Also apply grease to the thrust surface of the bearing.

Position the greased inner bearing in the inner bearing cup.

6. NOTICE: The slinger must be correctly centered on the bearing or damage to the components can occur.

NOTE: The grease on the bearing and slinger holds the slinger in position during seal installation.

Position the slinger on the greased bearing with the tangs facing the bearing.

7. With the slinger in place, position the wheel hub seal in the wheel hub bore and place the Handle and Wheel Hub Oil Seal Installer on the wheel hub seal.

8. Using the Handle and Wheel Hub Oil Seal Installer and holding the Handle straight, drive the wheel hub seal into position so that the seal flange bottoms out in the wheel hub.
- Verify that the slinger is correctly centered in the bore.

9. Install the wheel hub. For additional information, refer to Wheel Hub Wheel Hubs and Bearings - Full Floating Axle - Ford.
