Pinpoint Test E: The Roof Opening Panel Does Not Open or Close

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 101, Roof Opening Panel for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

During normal operation, the roof opening panel module receives voltage on circuit CBP47 (GN/BU) when the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON position. The roof opening panel module is grounded through circuit GD179 (BK/VT). The roof opening panel control switch common is supplied from the roof opening panel module through circuit CPR39 (VT/WH). The control switch provides ground inputs to the roof opening panel module through circuit CPR31 (VT/BN) and CPR40 (YE/OG).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Circuit breaker
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Roof opening panel switch
- Roof opening panel motor/module

PINPOINT TEST E: THE ROOF OPENING PANEL DOES NOT OPEN OR CLOSE

-------------------------------------------------
E1 VERIFY POWER WINDOW OPERATION

- Ignition ON.
- Attempt to operate the power windows.
- Do the power windows operate?

Yes
GO to E2.

No
REFER to Windows to diagnose the inoperative power windows.

-------------------------------------------------
E2 CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL LIFTER ASSEMBLIES FOR OBSTRUCTIONS OR DAMAGE

- Check the roof opening panel lifter assemblies for obstructions and damage.
- Are the roof opening panel lifter assemblies OK?

Yes
GO to E3.

No
REMOVE all obstructions and REPAIR any damage. If the lifter assemblies cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new roof opening panel frame. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Frame Roof Opening Panel Frame. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
E3 CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL WATER TROUGH AND REAR TROUGH GUIDES

- Check the roof opening panel water trough and rear trough guides for any loose obstructions.
- Are the roof opening panel water trough and rear trough guides installed securely and free from obstructions?

Yes
GO to E4.

No
REMOVE all obstructions from the roof opening panel water trough and INSTALL securely. SECURE the rear trough guides or INSTALL new roof opening panel rear trough guides if damaged. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Rear Trough Guide Roof Opening Panel Rear Trough Guide. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
E4 VERIFY THE ROOF OPENING PANEL ALIGNMENT

- Verify the roof opening panel is aligned correctly.
- Is the roof opening panel aligned correctly?

Yes
GO to E5.

No
ALIGN the roof opening panel. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Alignment Adjustments. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
E5 CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR/MODULE FOR INITIALIZATION

- NOTE: The roof opening panel motor initialization procedure must be done when repairs are carried out on any part of the roof opening panel assembly, including: whenever the roof opening panel motor/module has been removed from the roof opening panel assembly, a new roof opening panel motor/module has been installed or when a new roof opening panel assembly has been installed. Refer to Roof Opening Panel Motor Initialization Programming and Relearning.
- Carry out the Roof Opening Panel Motor Initialization procedure. Refer to Roof Opening Panel Motor Initialization Programming and Relearning.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
GO to E6.

No
The system is operating correctly. The roof opening panel motor/module was uninitialized.

-------------------------------------------------
E6 CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL SWITCH

- Carry out the roof opening panel control switch test.

- Is the roof opening panel switch OK?

Yes
GO to E7.

No
INSTALL a new roof opening panel switch. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
E7 CHECK CIRCUIT CBP47 (GN/BU) FOR VOLTAGE

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Roof Opening Panel Motor C921a.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between roof opening panel motor/module C921a-4, circuit CBP47 (GN/BU), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to E8.

No
VERIFY Smart Junction Box (SJB) circuit breaker 47 (30A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
E8 CHECK CIRCUIT GD179 (BK/VT) FOR AN OPEN

- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between roof opening panel motor/module C921a-3, circuit GD179 (BK/VT), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to E9.

No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
E9 CHECK CIRCUITS CPR39 (VT/WH), CPR31 (VT/BN) AND CPR40 (YE/OG) FOR AN OPEN

- Disconnect: Roof Opening Panel Switch C912.
- Measure the resistance between roof opening panel motor/module C921a, harness side and roof opening panel switch C912, harness side using the following chart:

- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to E10.

No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
E10 CHECK FOR CORRECT ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR/MODULE OPERATION

- Disconnect the roof opening panel motor/module connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- Connect all roof opening panel motor/module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
CHECK the jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the roof opening panel for open or shorted circuits. If the jumper harness is not OK, INSTALL a new jumper harness between the vehicle harness to the roof opening panel motor/module. If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new roof opening panel module/motor. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Motor Roof Opening Panel Motor. TEST the system for normal operation.
