Seat - Front, Bench
NOTE: For seat riser-to-floor bolt and nut torque specification and torque sequence, refer to the steps in this procedure.
Removal
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
All vehicles
1. Position the seat to access all the riser-to-floor nuts and bolts.
2. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
Turn the ignition OFF and wait at least one minute.
Regular cab vehicles
3. Using an appropriate tool, push in the pin hole while pulling the safety belt tongue out of the safety belt buckle.
All vehicles
4. Remove the front safety belts and buckles going through the front seat cushion. For additional information, refer to Seat Belt Systems.
5. Remove the front bench seat.
- Remove and discard the 2 riser-to-floor bolts.
- Remove the 2 riser-to-floor nuts.
- Disconnect the safety belt buckle switch electrical connector.
- Remove the front seat.
Installation
NOTE: New bolts must be installed, do not reuse the bolts that were removed. The studs and nuts can be reused.
NOTE: Before installation, make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted and the safety belts and buckles are accessible to the occupants.
All vehicles
1. Position the seat in the vehicle.
2. Connect the safety belt buckle switch electrical connector.
3. Install the seat retainers in the following sequence.
1. Install 2 new riser-to-floor bolts.
- Tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
2. Install the 2 riser-to-floor nuts.
- Tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
4. Install the front safety belts and buckles going through the front seat cushion. For additional information, refer to Seat Belt Systems.
Regular cab vehicles
5. Attach the center safety belt retractor tongue into the safety belt buckle.
All vehicles
6. Adjust the seat to the full forward and rearward positions a few times to make sure the safety belts and buckles are accessible to the occupants after installation.
7. Prove out the Restraints Control Module (RCM) as follows:
Turn the ignition switch from ON to OFF. Wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition switch back to ON and visually monitor the air bag warning indicator with the air bag modules installed. The air bag warning indicator will light continuously for approximately 6 seconds and then turn OFF. If an air bag SRS fault is present, the air bag warning indicator will:
- fail to light.
- remain lit continuously.
- flash at a 5 Hz rate (RCM not configured).
The air bag warning indicator might not light until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned from the OFF to the ON position. This is the time required for the RCM to complete the testing of the SRS. If the air bag warning indicator is inoperative and a SRS fault exists, a chime will sound in a pattern of 5 sets of 5 beeps. If this occurs, the air bag warning indicator and any SRS fault discovered must be diagnosed and repaired.
Clear all continuous memory DTCs from the RCM using a scan tool.
