Pinpoint Test AL: The Low Fuel Message Center Indicator Is Never On
Normal Operation
The low fuel message center illuminates when the Distance To Empty (DTE) calculation reaches 80 km (50 miles) or less. The DTE is calculated internally by the IC from data received from the powertrain control module and fuel level input. When the IC receives the data, the fuel gauge indicates low fuel and the IC turns on the low fuel message center indicator.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

PINPOINT TEST AL: THE LOW FUEL MESSAGE CENTER INDICATOR IS NEVER ON

AL1 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR
- Open the LH front door.
- Ignition ON.
- NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center indicators rotate through each of the warnings. Allow the displays to rotate through each display while determining whether the door ajar message center warning indicator is active.
- Observe the message center or integrated display area of the IC.
- Is the door ajar message center telltale warning indicator active?
Yes
GO to AL2.
No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

AL2 CHECK THE DTE OPERATION
- Ignition ON.
- Access and observe the message center or integrated DTE displayed mileage.
- Does the DTE display indicate 80 km (50 miles) or less until empty?
Yes
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The low fuel warning message does not appear until the DTE is 80 km (50 miles) or less.
