Pinpoint Test G: The Headlamps Do Not Illuminate When the Wipers are On

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81, Front Wipers and Washers for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

When the wipers are on and the headlamp control switch is in the AUTOLAMP position, the wiper motor sends a signal to the Smart Junction Box (SJB) on circuit CRW01 (WH). The SJB will then illuminate the exterior lamps within 10 seconds.

- DTC B2008 Wipers On Signal Circuit Short to Ground - Short to ground on wiper motor on input circuit.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Windshield wiper motor
- SJB

PINPOINT TEST G: THE HEADLAMPS DO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE WIPERS ARE ON

-------------------------------------------------
G1 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW01 (WH) FOR VOLTAGE

- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between wiper motor C125-2 circuit CRW01 (WH), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to G2.

-------------------------------------------------
G2 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW01 (WH) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280F.
- Measure the resistance between SJB C2280F-8 circuit CRW01 (WH), harness side and wiper motor C125-2 circuit CRW01 (WH); and between SJB C2280F-8 circuit CRW01 (WH), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the SJB and windshield wiper motor and greater than 10,000 ohms between the SJB and ground?

Yes
GO to G3.

No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
G3 CHECK FOR CORRECT MODULE OPERATION

- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the SJB self-test.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
