Pinpoint Test H: The Power Telescoping Mirrors Do Not Operate/Do Not Operate Correctly

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 124, Power Mirrors for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

Under normal operation, the power telescoping mirror control switch receives voltage from Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse 25 (10A) through circuit SBP25 (RD) and ground through circuit GD179 (BK/VT). The power telescoping mirrors use circuits CPM41 (VT), CPM42 (YE/OG), CPM43 (WH/VT) and CPM44 (GN/OG) to control the LH and RH power telescoping mirror movement. When the power telescoping mirror control switch is pressed rightward, the power telescoping mirror control switch supplies ground to circuits CPM41 (VT) and CPM43 (WH/VT), and voltage to circuits CPM42 (YE/OG) and CPM44 (GN/OG) to move the power telescoping mirrors inward. When the power telescoping mirror control switch is pressed leftward, the power telescoping mirror control switch supplies ground to circuits CPM42 (YE/OG) and CPM44 (GN/OG), and voltage to circuits CPM41 (VT) and CPM43 (WH/VT) to move the power telescoping mirrors outward.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Power telescoping mirror control switch
- Power telescoping folding mirror

PINPOINT TEST H: THE POWER TELESCOPING MIRRORS DO NOT OPERATE/DO NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

-------------------------------------------------
H1 CHECK POWER TELESCOPING MIRROR OPERATION

- Press the power telescoping mirror control switch to activate the power telescoping mirrors inward and outward.
- Are both power telescoping mirrors inoperative?

Yes
GO to H2.

No
GO to H4.

-------------------------------------------------
H2 CHECK CIRCUIT SBP25 (RD) FOR POWER

- Disconnect: Power Telescoping Mirror Control Switch C577 .
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between power telescoping mirror control switch C577-4, circuit SBP25 (RD), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to H3.

No
VERIFY the Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse 25 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation. Diagrams By Number

-------------------------------------------------
H3 CHECK CIRCUIT GD179 (BK/VT) FOR AN OPEN

- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between power telescoping mirror control switch C577-5, circuit GD179 (BK/VT), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
INSTALL a new power telescoping mirror control switch. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
H4 CHECK CIRCUITS CPM41 (VT), CPM42 (YE/OG), CPM43 (WH/VT) AND CPM44 (GN/OG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Disconnect: Power Telescoping Mirror Control Switch C577 .
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between ground and power telescoping mirror control switch:
- C577-7, circuit CPM41 (VT), harness side.
- C577-3, circuit CPM42 (YE/OG), harness side.
- C577-6, circuit CPM43 (WH/VT), harness side.
- C577-2, circuit CPM44 (GN/OG), harness side.

- Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to H5.

-------------------------------------------------
H5 CHECK CIRCUITS CPM41 (VT), CPM42 (YE/OG), CPM43 (WH/VT) AND CPM44 (GN/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between ground and power telescoping mirror control switch:
- C577-7, circuit CPM41 (VT), harness side.
- C577-3, circuit CPM42 (YE/OG), harness side.
- C577-6, circuit CPM43 (WH/VT), harness side.
- C577-2, circuit CPM44 (GN/OG), harness side.

- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
GO to H6.

No
REPAIR the circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
H6 CHECK CIRCUITS CPM41 (VT), CPM42 (YE/OG), CPM43 (WH/VT) AND CPM44 (GN/OG) FOR AN OPEN

- Measure the resistance between power telescoping mirror control switch C4037, harness side and exterior mirror C521 (LH)/ 601 (RH), harness side using the following chart:

- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

Yes
CHECK the LH or RH exterior mirror jumper harness for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness is OK or cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new LH or RH exterior mirror. REFER to Exterior Mirror Exterior Mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR the circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.
