Principles of Operation

In-Dash Computer

The in-dash computer uses the modem-antenna to transmit and receive data wirelessly. This data includes the Global Positioning System (GPS) signal for the navigation feature. The in-dash computer is capable of on-board self-tests, and it monitors other modules on the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN); however, it does not communicate with a scan tool.

Crew Chief

The telematics module uses the modem-antenna to exchange data with a remote computer. The telematics module monitors other vehicle modules on the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) to gather vehicle data (throttle position, idle time, braking data, etc.); however, it does not communicate with a scan tool.

Tool Link(TM)

The Tool Link(TM) system uses 2 antennas to ping (locate) all tools located within the vehicle cargo area that currently have ID tags. The ID tag information is sent to the in-dash computer through a serial cable.
