Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation and Reactivation






Deactivation Procedure

WARNING: Always wear eye protection when servicing a vehicle. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors or probe the electrical connectors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: Do not handle, move or change the original horizontal mounting position of the restraints control module (RCM) while the RCM is connected and the ignition switch is ON. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the Safety Canopy(R) and cause serious personal injury or death.

NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

1. Depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.

2. NOTE: Make sure the wheels are in the straight-ahead position.

Remove the driver air bag module.

1. Remove the 2 driver air bag module bolt covers (1 shown).

2. Remove the 2 driver air bag module bolts (1 shown).

3. Disconnect the horn electrical connector.

4. Disconnect the clockspring electrical connector.

5. Remove the driver air bag module.





3. Remove the glove compartment. For additional information, refer to Instrument Panel and Console Service and Repair.

4. Disconnect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.

5. Install Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse 32 (10A) to the SJB.

6. Connect the battery ground cable.


Reactivation Procedure

1. Remove RCM fuse 32 (10A) from the SJB.

2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

3. Connect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.

4. Install the glove compartment. For additional information, refer to Instrument Panel and Console Service and Repair.

5. Install the driver air bag module.

1. Connect the horn electrical connector.

2. Connect the driver air bag module electrical connector.

3. Position the driver air bag module into the steering wheel.

4. Install the 2 driver air bag module bolts (1 shown).
- Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

5. Install the 2 driver air bag module bolt caps (1 shown).





6. Repower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
