Evaporative Emission Canister - Aft-of-Axle





Removal and Installation

WARNING: Always disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery when working on an evaporative emission (EVAP) system or fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

3. Disconnect the 2 fuel vapor tubes-to-Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister quick connect couplings and fuel vapor tube pushpin retainer. For additional information, refer to Fuel System - General Information Service and Repair.

4. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector.

5. Remove the 5 EVAP canister assembly bracket-to-frame bolts.
- To install, tighten to 18 Nm (159 lb-in).

6. Place the EVAP canister assembly on a clean workbench.

7. If necessary, remove the 4 EVAP canister-to-bracket bolts.
- To install, tighten the 2 lower bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

- To install, tighten the 2 upper bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

8. If necessary, separate the EVAP canister vent solenoid and dust separator assembly from the EVAP canister.

9. NOTE: Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
