Fuel Tank - Midship

Removal and Installation

All vehicles

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

2. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Fuel System - General Information - Gasoline and Diesel Service and Repair.

3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery, Mounting and Cables Battery Disconnect / Connect.

4. Drain the fuel from the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to Fuel System - General Information - Gasoline and Diesel Procedures.

Gasoline engines

5. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe from the fuel tank.

6. Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe vent tube quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to Fuel System - General Information - Gasoline and Diesel Quick Connect Coupling.

Diesel engine

7. Loosen the 2 hose clamps and disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe and fuel tank filler pipe vent tube from the fuel tank.

All vehicles

8. Place a jack under the fuel tank.

9. NOTE: The 142 L (37.5 gal) midship fuel tank has 3 fuel tank straps and 6 cradle bracket bolts. All other midship fuel tanks have 2 fuel tank straps and 4 cradle bracket bolts.

Remove the 4 or 6 fuel tank strap bolts and remove the 2 or 3 fuel tank straps.

- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

10. Partially lower the fuel tank for access.

Gasoline engines

11. Disconnect the fuel vapor tube-to-Fuel Pump (FP) module quick connect coupling and the fuel supply tube-to-FP module quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to Fuel System - General Information - Gasoline and Diesel Quick Connect Coupling.

12. Disconnect the fuel vapor tube-to-fuel tank grade vent valve quick connect couplings. For additional information, refer to Fuel System - General Information - Gasoline and Diesel Quick Connect Coupling.

13. Disconnect the FP module electrical connector.

Diesel engine

14. Disconnect the fuel return tube-to-fuel level sensor quick connect coupling and the fuel supply tube-to-fuel level sensor quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to Fuel System - General Information - Gasoline and Diesel Quick Connect Coupling.

15. Disconnect the fuel level sensor electrical connector.

All vehicles

16. Lower the fuel tank.

17. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
