No 2nd Gear

A complaint of no 2nd gear on any of the units listed above may be caused by a torn, stretched, or deformed band anchor.

This complaint is usually experienced approximately 6,000 - 12,000 miles after overhaul, (including band replacement). If/when you encounter the above condition, check servo travel. If the amount of servo travel has greatly increased since the overhaul, yet the fluid is clean, suspect a damaged band anchor lug.

To help prevent a repeat failure of this nature, it may be to your advantage to use only a band with the equivalent of an ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT QUALITY BAND ANCHOR DESIGN.

Rarely will an O.E. quality band anchor design tear or stretch. It is also important to be aware that there may also be differences in the quality of metal used in construction of the anchor, such as hardness, tensile strength, etc..
