Governor Assembly
1. Inspect valve and weights for free operation.
2. Inspect springs for distortion.
3. Inspect sleeve for nicks, burrs, scoring or galling.
4. Inspect driven gear for damage.
5. Cut off one end of each governor weight pin, then remove the pins, weights and valve.
6. Remove retainer pin using a suitable punch, then support governor assembly and push out gear using suitable tools.
7. Clean all parts using suitable solvent, then allow to air dry.
8. Support governor or plates through exhaust slots, then install driven gear onto sleeve using a suitable press.
9. Drill a new retaining pin hole in sleeve 90° from existing hole using a 1/8 inch drill, then install retainer pin and stake into position.
10. Install valve into case, then the weights, springs and thrust cap onto governor assembly.
11. Install retaining pins into thrust cap and governor assembly, then stake retaining pins into position.
12. Check valve and weights for free operation.
13. Install governor assembly into governor bore.
14. Apply suitable sealant to governor cover flange, then install governor cover.
15. Install speedometer drive gear and clip. On some Corvette models, the output shaft may have two speedometer locating holes. Use the hole nearest the yoke spline.
16. Install O-ring seal on the output shaft sleeve, then the output shaft sleeve on output shaft using suitable tool. Do not push sleeve past machined surface on output shaft.
17. Install seal ring on case extension.
18. Install case extension and case extension attaching bolts. Position extension so speedometer bore is on governor side of case. Tighten extension attaching bolts to specifications.
19. Install all remaining external components, then remove transmission from holding fixture and install torque converter.
