Engine: Service and Repair


G Models
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove engine cover and air cleaner assembly.
3. Evacuate A/C system, then remove A/C compressor, if equipped.
4. Disconnect accelerator linkage, then remove carburetor mounting bolts and carburetor.
5. Remove grille and grille cross brace.
6. Remove windshield washer reservoir and A/C vacuum reservoir, if equipped.
7. Disconnect hoses from radiator.
8. On automatic transmission equipped vehicles, disconnect cooling lines from radiator.
9. If equipped with A/C, remove A/C condenser to radiator support attaching bolts, then position condenser aside.
10. Remove radiator to radiator support attaching brackets, then the radiator.
11. Disconnect heater hoses from engine.
12. Disconnect all wiring that will interfere with engine removal.
13. Raise and support vehicle.
14. Disconnect fuel line from fuel pump, then drain crankcase.
15. Remove propeller shaft, then plug transmission housing to prevent fluid leakage.
16. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
17. Disconnect shift linkage and speedometer cable from transmission.
18. Remove transmission mount retaining bolts.
19. On manual transmission equipped vehicles, disconnect clutch linkage, then remove clutch cross shaft.
20. Remove engine mount through bolts, then lower vehicle.
21. Attach a suitable engine lifting device, then raise engine and remove right hand engine mount from engine.
22. Remove engine/transmission assembly.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
