Disc Brake System: Tools and Equipment
BASIC SERVICE- Jack or lifting device.
- Safety stands.
- Lug nut wrench.
- 12 inch slip joint pliers.
Compressing The Pad Ears:
- Wire cutter (for removing cotter pins).
- Large C-clamp (for compressing the caliper piston).
Compressing The Caliper Piston:
- Hammer and brass drift.
- Complete set of combination wrenches or sockets.
- Elastic cord or wire (for supporting calliper once it is removed).
Suspending The Caliper:
- Wire brush.
- Bleeding device;
- Pressure bleeder or
- Vacuum bleeder or
- One-man brake bleeder kit or
- Length of clear plastic hose (3/16 inch ID) and a glass jar.
Brake Bleeding Setup:
- Suction bulb (for removing brake fluid from reservoir).
- Drip pan.
- Clean shop towels.
- Torque wrench (0-120 lb. ft.)
- Disc brake micrometer (for measuring rotor thickness).
- Dial indicator (for measuring lateral runout).
IF CALIPER REBUILDING IS NECESSARY:
Removing The Piston:
- Source of compressed air and air nozzle (for removing piston).
Installing The Caliper Boot:
- Caliper dust boot driver tool.
- Emery cloth (for cleaning inside of caliper).
