SUBJECT:
ENDGATE NAMEPLATE PEEL (REPLACE WITH NEW PART)

MODELS:
1986 - 1992 S/T UTILITY VEHICLES WITH SPARE TIRE CARRIER (RPO P16)

Some 1986-1992 S/T utility vehicles equipped with a spare tire carrier (RPO P16) may experience the paint on the endgate nameplate peeling. This condition can occur as a result of poor paint adhesion. To correct this condition, the nameplates have been redesigned. The redesigned nameplates can be installed using the following part numbers.

These changes were made in production vehicles after the following VIN Breakpoints:

Model Assembly Plant VIN
GMC Pontiac West (0) 1GKCT18Z9N0500019
GMC Moraine (2) 1GKDT13ZXM25586

Vehicles built before these VIN Breakpoints have endgates with stud mounting holes and use the following part numbers:

GMC
The original nameplate (P/N 15637984) was diecast with orange letters and included mounting studs. It has been replaced with a new nameplate (Kit P/N 15661303) which is plastic with ruby red letters and mounting studs.

Vehicles built after these VIN Breakpoints have endgates which were built without stud mounting holes.

The nameplates are self-adhering and use the following part numbers:

GMC
Nameplate P/N 15675400 is chrome with ruby red letters and has no mounting studs. This nameplate has adhesive backing and is approximately 12" long.
