Drum Brake System: Adjustments

The rear brakes must be adjusted manually after replacing the brake shoes.
1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Support the vehicle with safety stands.





3. Remove the knockout plugs (1) in the backing plate.
4. Tighten the adjusting screw until the wheel can just be turned by hand. The brake lining drag should be equal at both wheels.
5. Loosen the adjusting screw 24 notches.

Important: The brake shoes should not drag after backing off the adjusting screw 12 notches.

6. Install an adjusting hole cover in the backing plate.
7. Remove the safety stands.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Check the parking brake adjustment.
