Front Coil Springs Replacement^ Tools Required
^ J 23028-15 Coil Spring Compressor Adapter
^ J 23028-A Coil Spring Remover and Installer
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the engine protection shield, if equipped. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
4. Remove the shock absorber. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (4WD) Shock Absorber Replacement (RWD).
5. Remove the front stabilizer shaft link. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement.
6. Install J 23028-15 using the outboard locating tab.
7. Attach the retaining hook to the control arm. Tighten the wing nut until you eliminate any freeplay.
8. Securely attach J 23028-A to a suitable transmission jack.
9. Raise the jack until the yokes of J 23028-A line up with the notches in J 23028-15.
10. Using the J 23028-A and the J 23028-15 and the transmission jack, relieve the spring tension from the lower control arm pivot bolts.
11. Remove the lower control arm pivot bolt.
12. Remove the rear pivot bolt.
13. Remove the front pivot bolt.
14. Slowly lower the transmission jack in order to unload the front coil spring. It may be necessary to use a pry bar in order to guide the lower control arm out of position.
15. Remove the coil spring and the insulator.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the coil spring and the insulator to the lower control arm.
2. Raise the transmission jack in order to compress the front coil spring. It may be necessary to use a pry bar in order to guide the lower control arm into position.
3. Install the front pivot bolt.
4. Install the rear pivot bolt.
5. Install the lower control arm pivot nuts.
^ Tighten the pivot bolt nuts to 145 Nm (107 ft. lbs.).
Notice:
Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
6. Lower the jack. Remove the J 23028-15 from the control arm.
7. Install the front stabilizer shaft link. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement.
8. Install the shock absorber. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (4WD) Shock Absorber Replacement (RWD).
9. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
10. Install the engine protection shield, if equipped. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
11. Lower the vehicle.
