Tie Rod End: Service and Repair
Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement

- J 24319-B Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel.
3. Remove the outer tie rod stud retaining nut.
4. Loosen the jam nut (2) on the inner tie rod (1).
5. Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using J 24319-B .
6. Remove the outer tie rod (3) from the inner tie rod (1).
Installation Procedure
1. Connect the outer tie rod (3) to the inner tie rod (1). Do not tighten the jam nut (2).
2. Connect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the outer tie rod retaining nut.
^ Tighten the nut to 63 Nm (47 ft. lbs.).
4. Important: Be sure the power steering gear boot is not twisted after the toe adjustment.
Check the wheel alignment.
