Minor Compressor Repair Procedures

Disassemble





1. Pressure plate nut.





2. Using Pressure Plate Remover J34878, remove pressure plate.

Drive Clutch Snap Ring Removal:





3. Using appropriate snap ring pliers remove snap ring from drive clutch assembly.





4. If necessary, use a plastic hammer to tap drive clutch off from shaft.

NOTICE Care must be exercised not to damage pulley when tapping off drive clutch.

5. Clutch coil lead wire from compressor housing.





6. Using appropriate snap ring pliers, remove snap ring from clutch coil assembly and clutch coil.

Pressure Plate

Inspect
^ For wear and scoring. Replace if necessary.

Drive Clutch

Inspect
^ For wear and scoring. Replace if necessary.
^ Bearing for wear and leakage of grease. Replace if necessary.

Clutch Coil

Inspect
^ Clutch coil for resistance. If not within specification, replace coil.
^ Clutch coil resistance specification: 3.2 ± 0.2 ohms.

Assemble

1. Clutch coil to compressor assembly and using appropriate snap ring pliers, snap ring to clutch coil assembly.
2. Clutch coil lead wire to compressor housing.
3. Drive clutch assembly to compressor shaft.
4. Using appropriate snap pliers, snap ring to drive clutch assembly.
5. Pressure plate to compressor shaft.

Adjust

Pressure Plate To Drive Clutch Standard:




^ Clearance between pressure plate and drive clutch by placing shims on compressor shaft prior to pressure plate installation.
^ Clearance specification: 0.4 - 0.7 mm (0.016 - 0.028 in.)

Tighten
^ Pressure plate nut to 15 - 17.5 N.m (11.0 - 12.7 lb.ft.).
