Catalytic Converter: Description and Operation
Exhaust System:
CATALYTIC CONVERTER
The catalytic converter is an emission control device added to the gasoline engine exhaust system to reduce hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide, and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions. The catalytic converter utilized on this vehicle incorporates a honeycomb mesh coated with three catalysts. The catalytic material promotes burning or oxidation of the pollutants as the exhaust gas passes through the converter on its way to the tailpipe.
