EGR Electronic Vacuum Regulator Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

Inspecting Wire Harness:

Vacuum Switching Valve And Circuit:

1. Remove the ECM connector (GRN) from the ECM with ignition switch turned "OFF."

2. Remove connector from VSV.

3. Turn the ignition switch "ON" and check that battery voltage is applied to connector terminal "A." If not, check if wire harness (LT GRN/RED) or control relay circuit is open.

4. Connect VSV connector.

Inspecting EGR VSV:

Grounding G5 Terminal:

Inspecting EGR VSV (2):

5. Remove vacuum hoses from EGR valve (or EGR modulator) and throttle body.

6. With ignition switch "ON," blow into hose "A." Air should come out of hose "B" and not out of filter. If otherwise, either VSV is defective or LT GRN/YEL wire harness is shorted to ground.

7. Using a jumper wire of same gauge as VSV circuit, ground terminal "G5" of ECM connector. In this state, turn ignition switch "ON" and blow into hose "A." Air should come out of filter and not hose "B." If result is not as described above, either VSV is defective or (LT GRN/YEL) wire harness is open.

8. Reinstall vacuum hose.

9. Connect ECM connector.
