Throttle Cable/Linkage: Adjustments
ACCELERATOR CABLE ADJUSTMENTAccelerator Cable Adjustment:
PROCEDURE:
1. Check accelerator cable for end play.
2. Cable end play should be within specification when the accelerator pedal is released and the engine is NOT operating.
Accelerator cable end play specification: 10-15 mm (0.4-0.6 in.).
3. If not within specification, adjust by loosening the lock nut. Be sure to tighten lock nut securely after adjustment is made.
NOTE: Cable end play should be 3-5 mm (0.12-0.20 in.) when the throttle valve is in the idle position with the engine operating.
KICK-DOWN CABLE ADJUSTMENT
(FOR A/T VEHICLES)

Kick-down Cable Adjustment Figure 1:
PROCEDURE:
1. Make sure that the accelerator cable end play is within specification.
2. Loosen the kick-down cable lock nut and adjusting nut considerably. (See illustration).
3. With the aid of a second technician fully depress the accelerator pedal, pull the kick-down tight, in direction A. See illustration (figure 1).
4. Turn the lock nut to within 1 mm (0.039 in.) of the cable bracket while the cable is being pulled tight.
NOTE: When adjusting clearance, make sure that the adjusting nut does NOT contact against the bracket.
5. Have the second technician release the accelerator pedal and keeping the lock nut to bracket clearance at 1 mm (0.039 in.), turn the adjusting nut until it engages the bracket, fitting inside it.
6. When the adjusting nut is positioned flush within the bracket, tighten the lock nut fully, reducing the nut to bracket clearance to 0 mm (0.0 in.).
