Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Adjustments
Disconnecting Selector Cable:
1. Shift lever to "N" range.
2. Hoist vehicle.
3. Remove locknut and disconnect selector cable from shift lever by shifting shift lever to "L" range position.
4. Set shift lever to "N" range position and remove shift switch flange bolt. After turning shift lever switch completely clockwise, turn it counterclockwise gradually until restriction is felt, and tighten flange bolt there.
Adjusting Shift Switch Position:
5. Perform continuity check as described in "Shift Switch" test procedure, under SPECIFICATIONS, ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC SPECIFICATIONS. But this time, move shift lever from "P" to "L" and "L" to "P" range position instead of shifting selector lever and check for continuity between each terminal. If check result is not satisfactory, replace shift lever switch.
6. With selector lever held by another person, connect cable to lever while moving shift lever from "L" to "N" range position.
Holding Selector Lever:
NOTE: When another persons help is not available, the same work can be done as follows:
Remove center console box, shift selector lever to "N" range and insert 4 mm (0.16 in.) diameter rod into holes in selector lever position plate and selector lever so that selector lever is held in "N" range position. Then connect cable to lever.
7. With both selector lever and shift lever in "N" range position respectively, tighten adjusting nut and lock nut.
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Try shifting selector lever from "P" to "L" and "L" to "P" to confirm that it can be shifted properly.
10. Connect shift switch connector and negative battery cable.
