Ignition Cable: Description and Operation

CONSTRUCTION
The spark plug/coil secondary wiring is a carbon impregnated cord conductor encased in a rubber jacket. The 7-mm wire used on the 2.5L and 2.8L engines and the 8-mm wire used on the 3.1L, 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L and 7.4L has an outer layer of silicone. The silicone jacket withstands very high temperature and also provides an excellent insulator for the higher voltage of the electronic ignition system.
The silicone spark plug boots form a tight seal on the plugs and distributor cap.

CAUTION
- Care should be exercised when connecting a timing light or other pick-up equipment.
- Do not force anything between the boot and wiring.
- Do not pierce the secondary wire insulation.
- Use only equipment with an inductive pickup to check for spark plug firing.
- Do NOT pull on the wire to remove. The boot should be twisted 1/2 turn before removing. Pull on the boot, or use a tool designed for this purpose.
