Brake Caliper: Description and Operation

The caliper assembly, Fig. 1, slides on its mounting surfaces. When the brakes are applied, hydraulic pressure against the caliper piston forces the inboard pad against the inboard side of the disc. This action causes the caliper assembly to slide until the outboard pad comes into contact with the disc.
