Starting with the 1993 model year, General Motors will be complying with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Recommended Practice J-1930. J-1930 is an industry wide standard that was adopted into government regulation and requires certain electrical and electronic components and systems to be known by the same nomenclature that have the same function. This standard is also being applied to abbreviations and acronyms.
