Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Remove center floor console.
3. Remove steering column upper and lower covers.

4. Remove C-clip, bracket retaining screw and interlock cable from ignition switch, Fig.18, then pull cable from under I/P.

5. Remove interlock cable nut and cable end from manual selector key release plate, Fig. 16.
6. Remove interlock cable from bracket, then remove cable from under carpet.
INSTALLATION
1. Route interlock cable to manual selector and ignition switch.
2. Place manual selector in Neutral, then turn ignition switch to Accessory position.
3. Secure cable at ignition switch with bracket retaining screw and C-clip.
4. Install steering column covers.
5. Install interlock cable end to key release plate, then secure to manual selector with cable nut. Do not tighten fully.
6. Adjust interlock cable as follows:

a. Rotate key release plate and insert small screwdriver through key release and hold in position, Fig. 19.
b. Allow retaining spring to position the interlock cable bracket.
c. Tighten interlock cable nut to specifications. After tightening cable nut and manual selector lever in Park position, ensure ignition switch will turn from "ACC" to "Lock" position and key can be removed from ignition switch.
d. Verify ignition cannot be turn from "ACC" to "Lock" in any other manual selector position.
