Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair






Important

^ When installing a new condenser, add 20-30 ml (0.7-1 fl. oz.) of refrigerant oil to the refrigeration system.

Remove or Disconnect

1. Discharge and recover refrigerant. Refer to Discharging, Adding Oil, Evacuating and Charging the Refrigeration System.
2. Negative (-) battery cable.
3. Front grille and grille net.
4. One bolt, electrical connector and horn from vehicle.
5. Four bolts and radiator core center brace.
6. Six upper bolts, four lower bolts and front end upper panel from radiator core support.
7. Condenser-to-receiver/dryer (condenser outlet) pipe from pipe fitting in front of radiator (one nut).
8. Compressor-to-condenser (condenser inlet) pipe from condenser fitting (one bolt).
9. Condenser fan electrical connector.
10. Four condenser mounting bolts.
11. Condenser and fan from vehicle.
12. Cap refrigerant system openings to prevent moisture and dirt from entering system.

Disassemble

^ Four bolts and remove condenser fan from condenser.

Assemble

^ Condenser fan to condenser; secure with four bolts.

Tighten

^ Condenser fan mounting bolts to 15 N.m. (11 lb. ft.).


Install or Connect

1. Condenser and fan to vehicle; secure with four mounting bolts.

Tighten

^ Condenser mounting bolts to 20 N.m. (15 lb. ft.).

2. Compressor-to-condenser (condenser inlet) pipe to condenser fitting; secure with one bolt.
3. Condenser-to-receiver-dryer (condenser outlet) pipe to fitting in front of radiator.

Tighten

^ Compressor-to-condenser (condenser inlet) pipe fitting bolt to 25 N.m. (18 lb. ft.).

^ Condenser-to-receiver/dryer (condenser outlet) pipe fitting nut to 35 N.m. (26 lb. ft.).

4. Condenser fan electrical connector.
5. Front end upper panel to radiator core support; secure with six upper bolts, four lower bolts.

Tighten

^ Front end upper panel bolts to 20 N.m. (15 lb. ft.).

6. Radiator core center brace; secure with four bolts.

Tighten

^ Radiator core center brace bolts to 20 N.m. (15 lb. ft.).

7. Horn to vehicle; secure with one bolt.

Tighten

^ Horn bolt to 15 N.m. (11 lb. ft.).

8. Horn electrical connector.
9. Front grille and grille net.
10. Negative (-) battery cable.
11. Evacuate and recharge air conditioning system. Refer to Discharging, Adding Oil, Evacuating and Charging the Refrigeration System.
12. Operate A/C system and check for refrigerant leaks. Refer to Refrigerant Leak Testing.
