Starter Disassembly

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Starter solenoid from starter assembly.

Removing Commutator End Housing:

2. Two bolts, two screws and commutator end housing from drive housing.

Removing Brush Holder And Brushes:

3. Brush holder and brushes from commutator end of armature.

Removing Armature And Starter Motor Yoke:

4. Armature and starter motor yoke from drive housing.

Armature Bearing:

NOTE: If the armature bearing comes out during the removal procedure, apply grease to it and reinsert.

Removing Idle Gear Retainer And Idle Gear:

5. Idle gear retainer and idle gears from gear shaft assembly.

Removing Pinion Drive Lever Seal And Plate:

6. Pinion drive lever seal and plate from drive housing.

Removing Motor Gear Shaft Assembly:

7. Motor gear shaft assembly with pinion drive lever from drive housing.

Removing Pinion Drive Lever Seal And Plate:

8. Overrunning clutch retaining ring, stop ring and overrunning clutch from motor gear shaft.
