Odyssey:
PCM Replacement for Erratic or Harsh Shifting (Supersedes 04-060, dated April 8, 2005, to update the information indicated by the asterisks)

BACKGROUND

Some Odysseys that had a remanufactured A/T installed also need an updated PCM to improve A/T performance and durability.

When you order a remanufactured A/T, you may also get an updated PCM (shipped separately). You must install this unit as part of A,' replacement.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION





All owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this update. There is a customer letter example at the end of this bulletin.

Before starting work on a vehicle, make sure it is eligible by checking for one or more of these items:

^ The customer has a notification letter.

^ The vehicle is noted as eligible when you do a VIN status inquiry on the Interactive Network (iN).

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the PCM.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Use the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) with version 1.016.006 or later software to download the immobilizer system transponder codes from the PCM:

^ Refer to REPLACING THE ECM/PCM in S/B 00-049, Immobilizer System (Type 2), or

^ Online, enter the keyword IMMOBI, and select Immobilizer System (Type 2) from the list.





2. Pull back the carpet, and remove the driver's and front passenger's center lower console covers.

3. Unplug the four electrical connectors from the PCM.

4. Remove the PCM cover, then remove the PCM mounting nut.

5. Remove the PCM mounting bolt, then remove and discard the PCM.

6. Install the new PCM in the reverse order of removal. Torque the mounting nut and the mounting bolt to 12 N.m (8.7 lb-ft).

7. Reinstall the center console covers and the carpet.

8. Use the HDS to upload the immobilizer system transponder codes to the new PCM:

^ Refer to REPLACING THE ECM/PCM in S/B 00-049, Immobilizer System (Type 2), or

^ Online, enter the keyword IMMOBI, and select Immobilizer System (Type 2) from the list.

9. Do the idle learn procedure:

^ Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off.

^ Start the engine, and let it reach normal operating temperature (cooling fans cycle twice).

^ Let the engine idle with the throttle closed for 10 minutes.
