Transmission Temperature Sensor/Switch: Testing and Inspection

ATF Temperature Sensor Test/Replacement

1. Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the automatic transmission fluid (ATF).

2. Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).

3. Place a transmission jack under the transmission, and lift it up to create clearance between the transmission and the front subframe.

4. Disconnect the shift solenoid wire harness connector.

5. Remove the shift solenoid valve cover (A), the gasket (B), and the dowel pins (C).

6. Remove the shift solenoid wire harness.

7. Measure the ATF temperature sensor resistance between shift solenoid wire harness connector terminals No. 6 and No. 7.

- If the resistance is within the standard, install the shift solenoid wire harness connector and a new O-ring in the transmission housing, then go to step 11.
- If the resistance is out of the standard, go to step 8.

8. Disconnect the shift solenoid valve connectors from the shift solenoid valves. Then replace the ATF temperature sensor/shift solenoid wire harness assembly (F) and the O-ring (G) with new ones.

NOTE: The ATF temperature sensor is not available separately from the shift solenoid wire harness.

9. Connect the shift solenoid valve connectors:

- BLU wire connector to shift solenoid valve A.
- ORN wire connector to shift solenoid valve B.
- GRN wire connector to shift solenoid valve C.
- YEL, WHT, and WHT wire connector to shift solenoid valve D.
- RED wire connector to shift solenoid valve E.

10. Install a new gasket, the dowel pins, and the shift solenoid valve cover.

11. Check the connector for corrosion, dirt, or oil, and clean or repair if necessary, then connect the connector securely.

12. Remove the transmission jack.

13. Refill the transmission with ATF.
