Idle Up Control Valve: Description and Operation
Idle Boost And A/C Idle Boost Solenoid Operation:
The A/C idle boost solenoid is mounted on the firewall near the center of the engine compartment. The solenoid is a electric vacuum switching valve that is energized by the PGM unit whenever the air conditioning compressor is engaged. When powered, the solenoid applies manifold vacuum to the idle boost throttle controller. This opens the throttle to compensate for the added load imposed by the air conditioning compressor. When the solenoid is deactivated it blocks the vacuum passage and vents the vacuum remaining in the throttle controller, closing the throttle valve.
