Component Tests and General Diagnostics
View: Checking Spark:
1. Remove a spark plug from the engine. Reattach the plug wire and hold the plug against a ground with insulated pliers.
^ Alternatively, install a spark tester into the end of the spark plug boot.
2. Have an assistant crank the engine over and check for spark at the tester or spark plug.
3. Repeat this process at each spark plug.
- If any cylinder does not show spark, inspect the spark plug, distributor cap, rotor and the ignition cable for the affected cylinder.
- If all secondary components test O.K., check for DTCs. Computers and Control Systems
- If no codes are stored, proceed to Ignition Control Module (ICM) test. Testing and Inspection
