Product Update: Radius Rod Nut Torque
BACKGROUND
Although the front radius rod nuts were torqued to specification at the factory, some of the bushings may not have been fully seated during assembly. They seat after the vehicle is driven, causing the torque on the radius rod nuts to become less than specified. This condition may cause a slight drift or pull, or a slight clunk while braking.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take the vehicle to a dealership to have the radius rod nut torqued checked. The text of the customer letter is at the end of this service bulletin. Dealers should follow-up with customers by telephone, and encourage them to come in as soon as possible for this check.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Torque the front suspension radius rod nuts. Adjust the front end alignment if necessary.
1. Remove the front splash shield.
2. Use a felt-tip marker to make a line on each nut and the radius rod threads.
3. Torque each nut to 43 Nm (4.4 kg-m, 32 lb-ft). Count the number of turns required to reach the proper torque.
4. If more than two turns were needed to torque either nut, check and adjust the toe and caster.
5. Reinstall the front splash shield.
6. Center-punch a completion mark above the first digit of the engine compartment VIN.
